Developing wildlife habitat linkages and building effective wildlife crossings is critical for the conservation of carnivores and other wildlife and can also be a win-win situation for the public, highway agencies, wildlife management agencies, and land management agencies. Success is greatest where communities and agencies have come together to share ideas and information for developing effective highway mitigation programs. Engineers, biologists, and conservationists must work hand-in-hand to design and build wildlife crossings. While no two situations are exactly the same, as we learn from each success and challenge, subsequent wildlife crossings will be more effective. |
